TS: Woman has surprise baby

A woman warned she would never become a mother was rushed to hospital amid fears she had an ulcer - and had a baby boy hours later.

Lisa Witchalls, 25, had no idea that she was nine months pregnant when she made the dash to hospital after suffering intense stomach pains.

Miss Witchalls said last night: 'It has taken me some time to get my head around that I am actually a mum!'

'I went from being told that I would never have children to giving birth. But the whole family is just ecstatic.'

Miss Witchalls was admitted to the accident and emergency department at Queen's Hospital in Romford, Essex, on June 6 after a day out with her boyfriend Dean.

She was in agony and feared she was very ill.

'I was just really worried because I thought that I had an ulcer, but the paramedics had told Dean that I must have been pregnant,' said Miss Witchalls.

'I thought that it could not happen because if a doctor tells you that you cannot have kids you do not question it.'

Medics checked her blood pressure and carried out two positive pregnancy tests.

They told Miss Witchalls she was 35 weeks pregnant and she was quickly transferred to the flagship hospital's labour ward.

But after a problem with the baby's heartbeat, she was measured again and told she was actually overdue.

'I could not get my head around what was going on and I went through so many emotions,' said Miss Witchalls, from Romford.

'To go into hospital thinking it was an ulcer and to come out a week later with a baby is really crazy'

'First of all I was just happy that I was pregnant and thought I would have some time to get used to the idea but I was told that I actually had to give birth straight away.'

Hours after being given the bombshell news, Miss Witchalls was given a Caesarean section and healthy baby boy Reece was born weighing 7lbs 4oz.

'I was just in shock and I just could not believe that he was mine,' said the thrilled new mother.

'To go into hospital thinking it was an ulcer and to come out a week later with a baby is really crazy.'

Gynaecologists told Miss Witchalls they were 90 per cent sure she would never conceive because she only had one ovary after they carried out a battery of tests last year.

Throughout the nine months she was carrying Reece, Miss Witchalls did four home pregnancy tests which all came up negative and she even joined a gym a week before giving birth.

'I was devastated that I could not have kids and I would never be able to have a family of my own,' admitted Miss Witchalls.

She has now been told the pregnancy could have been missed because the baby was lying on one of her ovaries - but she is still due to have more tests.

'Looking back it's very scary because I must have had every type of test done and they could have easily harmed the baby,' said Miss Witchalls.

'My nan, who died in February, always said that I would have kids one day. I always thought that she was just being a typical grandmother but she has turned out to be right.'

How the hell do you miss an enormous bump in your stomach, she must be quite fat already.

Well plenty of women don't get morning sickness, and to be honest at her size would she notice her breasts growing more? Sometimes women still get their periods even when pregnant, not so sure about all the way through the pregnancy though.

You would think this is unusual, but it happens enough for TLC to make a show called I didn't know I was pregnant. It's weird cause some of the people still get their periods when they're pregnant. I've never watched it, but every one talks about it.

This is very odd O.o
You'd think she'd notice...

Anyway, periods during pregnancy should be impossible as, specially the first few months, they would abort the baby.

I, personally, do think it's quite stupid not to notice pregnancy. :P Especially if your reason is something like: "Yeah, doctor says so." while you have similar symptoms.. could at least check what she had when she has some irregular symptoms.
And indeed there are some stories about people that has their "periods" while they're pregnant. But that is not a regular period. Mostly there comes blood out the vagina because of decidual bleeding, often confused with their normal period. Because.. it mostly look the same.

But to make it 9 months without noticing... If she thought she might have been pregnant, and if she took all those at home tests she must have thought for some reason it was a possibility, then you'd think she'd have mentioned it to the doctors for a blood test or something.

Personally I am waiting for this to come onto a daytime talk show to discuss "Who's the daddy".

People really should start caring more about their body.
